Great Black-headed Gull, Rusne, Lithuania, 9 Sept 2009

We (Hannu Koskinen, Visa Rauste and myself) were lucky enough to find this splendid 1 cy bird on a recent gull watching trip to Lithuania. It represents the second record for the country. We watched it for a short period, resting and preening on a sand bar, before it was flushed by a dog. As far as we know it has not been seen subsequently. It was too far away for decent photographs with our DSLRs, so these are really nothing more than record shots.

I will add pictures of cachinnans and other gulls from the trip to the blog as soon as possible.
