White-winged gulls, Peterhead, 14 & 15 Feb 2009

This weekend, 4 Iceland and 3 Glaucous Gulls were around Peterhead. This post shows most of these individuals.

A beautiful, delicate white bird.

2 cy Iceland. Same bird as above

2 cy Iceland. A different individual.

Adult Iceland. I only saw this bird on Saturday

2 cy Iceland
2 cy Glaucous

2 cy Glaucous. A pale, now rather worn bird. This bird has become progressively paler during its extended stay; when it first arrived it was considerably darker and more chevroned than now.

2 cy Glaucous. Same bird as above.

Hi Chris,

I saw both of those 2cy Glaucs next to eachother on a roof on Sunday evening and was struck by the incredible contrast between two birds of the same age. I think the dark bird is especially dark, and the light one especially pale.

I saw the adult Iceland at the harbour entrance as well - it seemed to have a damaged wing.
